About “Things I’ve Learned…”

Blogging is fun. It may be tough coming up with new ideas, but once you have a thought and no particular person to share with, it becomes easy.

Hello, my name is Andrew. Some of you may know me from the Minnesota Twins blog Twinkie Town (I sound a lot like Troy McClure there, don’t I?), others are reading my typing for the first time. Doesn’t matter, everyone’s welcome.

I started blogging October 2009 when I decided that I wanted to be a sportswriter but didn’t have the motivation to pursue it as a career and didn’t want to meet deadlines or listen to suggestions from editors. Like I said above, it can be tough at times, but I’ve found it very enjoyable and it’s been a great way for me to get my ideas out to people that otherwise may never hear what I have to say.

While blogging at Off The Mark (my first baseball blog), I started to realize that I had many more things that I wanted to say but nowhere to put them down, as I deemed OTM to not be an appropriate place to talk about things outside of sports. Therefore, I started “Things I’ve Learned…” instead.

The reason for this title is due to an annual thing I did on Facebook. At the end of every year of college, I wrote a post titled, “Things I’ve Learned From My ______ Year at Gustavus” with “freshman,” “sophomore,” etc. filling in the blank. These notes were observations I’ve made about the world around me and they became very popular, likely because my friends could relate to my jottings and each thought was short and easy to process.

With this blog, I’m looking for a place to expand on these thoughts. While I do have more than 100 thoughts from these notes, I won’t necessarily use all of them here. Instead, I’ll focus more on things in the present, and I’ll dive into the existing notes if I feel like it.

Finally, I’ll be the first to admit that I don’t know how often I’ll post new content. It could be a couple weeks, it could be a whole year. It just depends on when I have time, the passion, and the interest to write.

I hope you enjoy this blog.
